Sightseeing In Paris

There is no better place in the world to engage in sightseeing than in France. Sightseeing in Paris is free, fun, and fabulous. A tourist can walk for miles and miles without entering a building. In fact spending a day simply walking around Paris is a great way to learn about the city. With some good weather and some sturdy walking shoes, you are on your way to having the time of your life.

After a hearty breakfast, you can ask hotel workers which way to start your walking tour. Whether you go left or right depends on what you want to see. If you are a people watcher, you may even spend some of your sightseeing time sitting at a café sipping coffee and watching the locals and tourists go by. Of course, this is your rest time between your miles of walking. Remember the walking burns calories so eat all you want.

Some very famous places to walk also have great importance in Paris. The Place de la Bastille covers the 4th, 11th, and 12th arrondissements on the right bank of the River Seine. For the clueless, an arrondissement is kind of like boroughs in New York City. Each has its own local government. You can also just call them districts of Paris. No one will understand you except other American tourists, but who cares? Of course, these districts were the sites of some of the most important events in the history of France. Anyone who has studied the French Revolution knows that the revolutionaries stormed the Bastille prison at the beginning of the Revolution. For anyone who enjoys history, these districts are perfect for sightseeing in Paris.

Everyone who knows anything about Paris has heard of the Champs-Elysees in the 8th arrondissement. This beautiful stroll is a 17th century garden promenade. This is where the beautiful people walked when they wanted to see and to be seen. Now it connects the Concorde and the Arc de Triomphe. Many people call it the most beautiful avenue in the world. There are endless shops and many tourist attractions. If you can walk this avenue without entering a shop or attraction, you might as well have stayed at home. This is a major sightseeing in Paris Mecca.

Another lovely district to visit is the Latin Quarter. Named the Latin Quarter because Latin was taught here for centuries, this is a gathering place for intellectuals and students. Its lively bistros and fun people make this a great place to people watch. The very famous Sorbonne campus is the heart of the district. There are many other educational centers here also. Don't misunderstand; educational center doesn't mean dull. The Latin Quarter is perfect for a walking tour.

If you want to shop and stop simply sightseeing, go to Avenue Montaigne in the 8th district which has many to die for shops. Some of the most favored shops are Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior, and Givenchy. Remember if you have to ask how much an item costs in these stores, you cannot afford it. They do not charge to window shop so stroll down the avenue and dream.

Sightseeing in Paris is a dream. No one can get lost in Paris because there is a cathedral, shop, café, or landmark right around the corner. Happy sightseeing.
