Paris Travel Tips
For many Americans Paris is the first foreign country they visit. The allure of this beautiful city overcomes any fears they might have of going abroad. Going to a country where English is not the primary language spoken can be a little daunting. Some very simple Paris travel tips can make your trip of a lifetime everything you ever wanted it to be.
One simple way to stay safe in Paris is to dress to fit in with the locals. If you dress in clothes most people only wear to the gym, you will stick out like the American you are. If you wear white tennis shoes, you might as well wear a sign that says, rob me I am a rich American and I don’t know how to dress. If you must wear tennis shoes, wear black ones. Try to find some that don’t look so awful. If at all possible, try to find some nice black low heeled boots. They can be very comfortable and are very chic.
Most people in Paris, especially women, wear dark colors, especially black. If you want to blend, pack simple black, grey, or navy blue clothes. Try to color coordinate your colors so that you will not have to pack too many clothes. Avoid loud colors and never sweat pants and track suits. Nice jeans are acceptable especially if they are black. Always pack a light jacket and umbrella because you never know what the weather might be like. If you visit in the winter, check the weather before you leave so you will know whether or not to pack a heavy coat.
Make copies of your passports and put them in a safe place at your hotel. You need your passport while you are traveling. If you lose the passport, you have a big problem. If you have passport copies, you can take them to the American embassy for help. The copies will help you to get an emergency passport. You will not be able to leave the country without a passport.
Since your money, passport, and credit cards are of major concern, you should put them in a very safe place. Putting them in your wallet or purse is not the best option. If either is stolen, all of your valuables are gone. Therefore, put these items in a secret pouch that you either wear around your waist or around your neck. Most females are most comfortable with the ones worn around the neck. If you are lucky and you are never the victim of a robbery, then good for you. I would rather be safe than sorry.
Another good Paris travel tip concerns your money. There ATMs everywhere in Paris so you do not have to carry large sums of money on your person at all times. You do need some cash if you are going to some small shops or plan to use a taxi. Most restaurants, hotels, and shops take credit cards. When you do need to use an ATM, use your card in a very safe place such as a bank, your hotel, or other safe places. Watch around you to see if someone is watching you. Sometimes criminals hang around ATM machines in the hope that they will see a mark. Always pay attention to your surroundings.
Visiting Paris for the first time is an overwhelming wonderful opportunity to see one of the most beautiful cities in the world. A few simple Paris travel tips can make your trip an even better one.
