Paris France Restaurants

Not only is Paris the city of romance, the city of lights, and a beautiful old city, but it is also a gastronomic delight. French chefs are arguably the greatest chefs in the world. Paris has restaurants that offer classic French cuisine and many that soar to the heights with new mind blowing offerings. Be aware that if you are visiting Paris to enjoy its restaurants, you had better bring your credit card with a pretty high limit. Paris restaurants did not get their exquisite reputation for serving average, cheap food. Meals are very expensive whether they are a la carte or price fixed. If you are on a budget, you might want to choose a few fine dining restaurants and save money on the rest. At the very worst, at least choose one incredible meal.

Before you plan your trip to Paris, do your homework and search for restaurants that you would like to try. A lot of restaurants have their own websites which offer menu choices and specials. They also advise you of the prices of the various foods. Many of the finer restaurants are booked months in advance. If you call for a reservation when you get to Paris, you will get a firm-No.

Guidebooks are another way to choose a restaurant. These travel books will discuss the most current and timeless restaurants Paris has to offer. They will also give you an idea of what prices you might have to pay for a meal. If you faint from reading the price, think what you will do when you receive a check that would make a car payment. Paris is a trip of a lifetime; life to the fullest and choose fine dining at least so you can see what all of the fuss is about.

When you see a French menu even if it is in English there may be some foods that you are not familiar with because these items are not regularly seen on most American menus. Most of us remember I Love Lucy when Lucy wants to be seen as an expert and orders escargot just to find out she has ordered snails. Funny if you don’t have to pay for them. If you are unfamiliar with any item, try to ask your waiter or someone who speaks French. It might not be a good idea just to say you choose. French people eat some foods that we would not touch with a ten foot pole.

Besides snail which some people either like or loathe, there are some other food items that we might want to pass on unless we will eat anything. Many entrees come with foie gras which is duck liver. Liver is certainly an acquired taste. If you see sweetbreads, only order them if like animal brains. Ugh. Ask what the sausages are made with. Some are blood sausages or sausages made from pork entrails or as in the south like to say chitterlings. Again not on your life. Kidneys are also pretty popular. They are definitely an acquired taste and not one that I plan to acquire. Often the urine taste is overwhelming.

Going to Paris France restaurants is quite an experience and one you should not miss. By law French restaurants must put a menu outside their doors so that potential customers know what their choices will be before they come in to eat. The experience will take quite a while because French chefs are not Waffle House cooks. They work slowly and prepare unforgettable meals.
