History Of Paris France

The earliest known history of Paris dates back to 4200 BC. Because of the Seine River, the Celtic people were primarily traders and seaman. Of course, the ever present Romans conquered the French in 250 BC. There are many Roman ruins in Paris today that are still visited today. The Romans re-named the city, but after the fall of the empire and the conquest by the Germanic tribes, Paris took back it now very famous name.

Until the tenth century, the Franks led France until their line ran out and France had no cohesive leadership. Finally the Capetian Dynasty solidified France during the Middle Ages. As with most countries, the French wee hit very hard with the Black Plague. Many French people died before the vicious plague ended. The Hundred Years War with England also took a toll on the French. It seemed that the England and France were always at war with one country always trying to overtake the other.

Not until the seventeenth century did Paris France start to become the center of art and culture it is today. Louis XIV wanted France to also be the center of intellectual and educational enlighten. Because of the opulence of the monarch and the poverty of its people, revolutionaries revolted against the monarch. Many heads later, the revolutionary government gave over to Napoleon. Fortunantly neither the revolutionaries not Napoleon destroyed the incredibly beautiful cathedrals, palaces, and other buildings that make Paris France the tourist Mecca it is today. Without the overabundance of spending by the French kings, there would be little reason to visit the city. The historic buildings are certainly part of its appeals. Knowing a little bit of the history of Paris France helps us to understand what we are planning to see and enjoy.

Most everyone knows the history of Paris France in the twentieth century. We all know that the Germans invaded France during World Wars I & II. Eventually the wars ended and Paris again became the fashion capital of the world again. The name Charles De Gaulle is synonymous with French politics. He is probably the most important political figure in French history other than Napoleon.

Today Paris France is a thriving city full of not-to-be missed museums, buildings, art, and history. Being able to see ruins left by the Romans is as incredible as being able to visit Versailles, one of the most beautiful palaces in the world.
